Shockwave treatment:non-intrusive, faster healing.

If you’re living with joint or tendon-related pain, our 360º approach to your health and well-being can help to restart your body’s natural healing process.

As part of your personalised recovery programme, your team may recommend Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT) as a stand-alone treatment, or in conjunction with other therapies.

Using acoustic sound waves, our safe and convenient shockwave treatment stimulates an increase in new blood vessels in the affected area, helping damaged tissues to recover quicker.

This non-invasive alternative to surgery has also been shown to help relieve chronic pain.

How it works

At the start of your 360º treatment plan, your physiotherapist will carry out a full clinical assessment, which may include referring you for an MRI or ultrasound scan.

If Shockwave Therapy is right for you, we’ll integrate this into your bespoke treatment programme to help you recover, and return to your best, quicker.

Shockwave Therapy works by delivering targeted impulses of energy to damaged tissues. These waves travel up to 40mm into your body.

Once your treatment begins, our team work with you to identify the area of pain and apply a gel-like substance to your skin. We’ll then apply a probe on the affected area and deliver impulses as a shockwave that spreads inside the tissue.

These radial shockwaves kick-start an inflammation-like response in the tissue, and encourage your body to respond naturally, by increasing blood circulation driving your metabolism, and creating new blood vessels.

To make sure you’re comfortable with the process, we begin your shockwave treatment with an appropriate level of intensity and continue with a highly personalised course of treatment.
